A few days before his birthday, we had taken him to the vet to have two large masses checked out. (the first having been there a few years, and we were always told it was a harmless fat tumor) I found a new one in his groin around Christmas time.
We are so sad, but we are loving on our sweet boy all we can. The vet said he needs to rest a lot for at least a week, so the incisions on his hip, side, and belly can heal. We are waiting on biopsy reports, just to see what type of cancer we are dealing with.
Butterbean likes to follow me everywhere I go inside the house. So I have had to make myself sit a little more than usual, which really hasn't been a problem. I'm still making yo yo's.
**Of course, after the fact, I have done lot of research and feel guilty because we have allowed the vet to administer every type of vaccine that was offered , used flea and tick medicine, gave monthly heartworm medication..... thinking we were doing a good thing. I am now realizing that some of these cancers have been attributed to over vaccinating. Go figure! **
If you have young puppies, please do your research now.
I'm so sorry to hear this news. ((Hugs)) Praying you have a lot more time with him. I know Skye has to use flea medicine because she is very allergic to flea bites. I wish we didn't have to.
ReplyDeleteOh...I am so sorry to hear this.
ReplyDeleteI will pray for you and your sweet pup.
Hugs and prayers, my friend.
Oh, poor puppy. And it is so hard to not be able to make it all better for them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young we had a dog that eventually was taken by cancer when she was about 7--and we didn't do all the vaccines and medicines. You did what you thought was best, and you love him. That is the most critical thing!
I remember when you first got Butterbean! Was he your daughter's dog first before she left home? I'm so sorry to hear that he is having problems. You shouldn't blame yourself since you were doing what you thought was best. He has had such a good life and hopefully some more years too! But, I know its hard when you love an animal and have to see them go through this. Its so sweet that he likes to follow you around.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your fur baby's health. Praying that the cancer did not spread and that he will heal quickly. ((((((HUGS)))))
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that your beloved pet has to go through so much. I love the name "Butterbean". How did your dog come to have tht name? Must be a story.
ReplyDeleteI hope he will get better soon, he is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for what you and Butterbean are going through.
ReplyDeleteDo not blame yourself - you thought you were doing the best for him and under the advice of your vet too! Hugs to Butterbean ♥
ReplyDeletePoor baby!
ReplyDeleteHope he has a speedy recovery
I'm so sorry to hear about Butterbean. Is he a Shih Tzu? My brother and his wife raises Shih Tzus, they are the cutest little dogs! When we got our little Mikey, I said something to my husband about his vaccines. He responded with, "Why would we want to pump him full of chemicals when we didn't do it with our son?" That's when I starting researching pet healthcare and the chemicals in all those vaccines. DON'T feel guilty because now you can help others to learn to research.
ReplyDeleteOh sweet little Butterbean!!! Praying he heals fast and that the cancer has been removed. Don't beat yourself up over the vaccines - we've all done it, thinking we were doing the right thing. We're not research scientists, so blame them for telling us it was ok. I get so mad at them. Big hugs, all of you....
ReplyDeleteButterBean is such a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteWe lost our sweet Theo 5 years ago and we now think the Trifecta flea medicine and the chicken jerky treats he loved so much but were made in China contributed to his Addison’s disease. One summer he had a horrible case of fleas and I tried so many things before the trifecta, and the trifecta was the only thing that got rid of the fleas.
Don’t beat yourself up. At the time, you were being a responsible pet owner, doing what you truly believed to be best.
12 years is a long life for a puppy.
I’m so sorry. I know it’s hard and heartbreaking
I am so sorry for your puppy's health issues. It is hard when we have animals we love and we can't fix the problem. I have 6 dogs, from 4 years up to 20, and I am afraid they are all spoiled. I have one male with digestive allergy issues, so he has to have special dog food and the occasional benadryl in peanut butter. My 20 year old dog is a tad senile, but still able to eat and potty properly--she even still tries to catch the road runner that comes into our yard--it looks like a movie in slow motion when she runs, and the road runner must feel sorry for her, because he slows down so she can get close. I pray that your little guy has an easy time, and that the vet can help him.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your dog has cancer. I hope he results come out as positive as possible, and this is not a serious kind.
ReplyDeleteSo cute....sorry he is sick. My Dakota turned 11 on Feb 12. It breaks my heart to look him in the face and see the gray these days.
ReplyDeleteSO very sorry about your pup. So sorry. Will be checking into the vaccines.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
d
What a cute name for your dear little dog. I hope the cancer treatment is completely successful. Oh dear, now I am wondering about the vaccines my dog gets.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I am so very sorry. Cancer is an ugly thing. Enjoy your little fellow and pray for him. Hug,
ReplyDeleteLaura
