Now that I know....

I have a large patch of irises that were already planted when we bought our home. I have ignored and neglected them and they didn't do as well this year. However, do you see this pretty flower in the midst? Hubby and I never realized it was a flower before, and we would always pull these up and toss them aside before they had a chance to develop. We thought they were weeds. As we have been in the process of moving, we have neglected the flower bed even more this year, which allowed this baby to develop and bloom! I have several of these and had no idea what they were. My mom says they look like, what my Grandmother used to call, California Poppies. The flower is so pretty and has a very sweet smell. Now that I know they aren't weeds, I think we'll start keeping them. :o) Also, any advice for getting my irises to be pretty again next year?

  1. Okay, guys... after I posted this, I googled "California Poppy" and the pictures look nothing like this. Does anyone know the official name of this plant?

  5. I love unusual flowers that just come up out of nowhere. I don't have any advice for the iris, except they might need dividing if they are too thick. I have bunches of them that came from my Grandmother's yard and they are prolific. I just wish they bloomed longer. You could divide the irises and make more plants in your yard or give some away.

  9. Hi Pen pen,
Hope you take as many of your pretty plants with you as you can. I don't know what that red one is either.
To answer your question. No I don't argue about the price of something at the garage sales. If its to much I just don't buy it. I guess the prices around here are just low. I couldn't believe that table cloth for three dollars. It must have taken a year to do all that embroidery. Now and then we run into a garage sale with really high prices but not often. I still love the thrift store best. But garage and yard sales are a nice change.
