Easy manicures

I've never been a huge fingernail person, meaning I go through phases of growing my nails and having them professionally manicured.

But most of the time , I bite my nails. Horror of horrors! Especially knowing some of the things my nails have touched (as a nurse and a doggy mom)

Now that I have retired, I have decided I must do better! I really like professional manicures, but not the cost, upkeep, and the way they trim my cuticles. (Cuticles look good for a day or two, then hangnails like crazy develop when the skin starts to grow back!)

Did I mention I have a toe nail fungus that I'm sure I caught from a salon? After two rounds of help from my dermatologist, that seems to be resolving too.

So so what's a girl to do when she wants cute nails, but doesn't want to use a salon?

Do them myself !

My friend, Rita, sent samples of Jamberry nail wraps. See my first attempt. Two wraps, nail polish on other nails.

I do do not have a steady hand to paint, so I ordered a whole set of wraps.

The white stuff you see is lotion. But let me tell you, I am sold on this product. So easy and cute enough!!

I will try the less expensive wraps from discount stores too. My Jamberry wraps stayed on better than polish and that was even with sealing grout...no gloves!

I havent tried them on my toenails yet, but plan to later this week. I have given myself a pedicure, however, and have decided to do that myself for awhile too. It must be much healthier than sharing bowls with others.

So there you have it...my new project/hobby. Bonus: I'm not biting my nails!

  2. I have some of the jamberry nail wraps and have yet to try them. I'm so afraid I am going to screw it all up. ;) I love the look of nail polish and have tons of it, but it chips and flakes so fast on me that it is not even funny. I'll have to get my DIL to show me how to best use the wraps since she has used them before. I love how pretty they look on your nails!

  3. I had to check out your blog after you left a comment on mine. It looks like we have much in common though you are getting much more done than I am the last few years.

Your grandchildren are adorable! My two youngest grands - 12 yr old twins- just left a few minutes ago. I don't get to see them often enough since they live almost 3 hours away and their family is so busy.

I haven't tried the nail wraps yet. My nails tend to be soft, and have some weak spots, plus split easily including splitting in layers so I can no longer get them to grow out. I love to wear nail polish but it peeled off to easily and too soon. A friend said I should go to the gel polish as it keeps nails firmer and lasts at least a week. That works. It even stayed on as I washed dishes by hand and didn't have to wear rubber gloves to keep nails dry. You might try one and see how it works for you. I got the kind that does not require a light to harden as I didn't want to invest in the light if I didn't like it.

  6. I like the lilac colored nail wraps. How do you remove them? I do my own nail polish, never had or wanted a manicure.

  7. How cute!! I used to grow my nails [they're hard as rocks and grow fast] until my aunt, who's also a nurse, told me what lives under them, lol. Now I keep them short short!

  10. My daughter tried Jamberry. I wanted her to use gloves to wash dishes, but she didn't. Even so, they lasted more than a week. I bet they'd last longer if one babied them.

    Be blessed!
