Trying the 'modern' world

Have you seen this??
My daughter is sharing her Netflix account with me, so I recently watched the first series of Downton Abbey on the laptop.  Loved the show!!! Not  so sure about watching it with a computer in my lap. I loved this series so much that I am planning to purchase season 2, as it isn't on Netflix yet.  I am trying to decide if I want to purchase DVD's to watch on the big tv or shall I order the instant downloads from Amazon and watch on my laptop????

Did you know that you can download e books to read on your computer?  Even if you don't have a Kindle or Nook reader?  Duh, you say!  Well, this is all new to me.  I am currently reading this book on my laptop.  I think I would finish it quicker if I had the paper version in my hand.  When I pick up the laptop, I find myself too distracted by facebook, blogs, and other sites...and find very little time for reading my e book.  (This book will be performed as a Musical in Shipshewana, Indiana.  Would I love to go??? yes!  I've entered a contest for a free weekend getaway there....wouldn't that be lovely?)

I'm still trying to read all of Jennifer Chaiaverini's Elm Creek Quilt books.  I'm finishing up this one today and have loved, loved, loved all her books so far.  This one is a Civil War story and describes the treatment of slaves (which I'm sure is described mildly in this book).  I have found myself sad throughout much of this book....

So, now if I can just put some of these books and movies and laptop down....and get some things done. I plan to finish up Baby Chandler's quilt this week.  His baby shower is this weekend....go, Penpen, go!!!

  1. Good morning!
You know...we have Netflix and just can't seem to get myself to sit and watch a movie on my computer...like you I'm off to many other things when I'm on here and just can't concentrate long enough.

As for reading books on your computer...well I have a kindle and I get the books downloaded to it and I can also read them on my computer BUT...I did not know you could read for free...how is that possible???

I just finished the HALF STITCHED AMISH QUILTING CLUB and loved it...(on my Kindle of course...lol).
I also signed up to win tickets to see the play...but even if I don't my husband and I may go and see it on our Anniversary in September.

    Blessings,
    Karen

  3. I haven't watched that show. I guess your decision would be if you actually want to own the DVD's to watch it again. I didn't know you could download a book to your computer so your not alone in that one. Sounds like you need to finish the quilt. Hope you get it done in time for the shower.

  4. Hi Penny,

I love Downton Abbey too, my daughter got me hooked on it when I visited her in LA. We'd go out every day and come back for a little down-time (Downton time!) before her hubs got home. Season II was still available to watch on the PBS website when I got back so I got to see it free. I love Mr. Bates!!

I got a Kindle for Christmas and discovered I'm too cheap to buy books and too picky for the selection from our library. One of these days I'll figure out what I'm doing. The historical quilting books sound interesting.

I hope you have a productive week!

  9. Hi pen pen,
You seem to be in some kind of a media blitz. That series does look good. Myabe I can find it on PBS. As for the reader, so far I prefer a book, I get dizzy trying to read from the nooks, etc. Richard says I'm always dizzy. Now that is just not true!
I need to get to the library this week, I'm almost out of things to read and that just can't happen.
