Grandma Names

Our time is almost here... baby Avery is set to be delivered on Feb. 9, 2009. Mom is having some blood pressure issues, so he gets to arrive a little earlier than planned. A lot of people keep asking me "what are you going to have the baby call you?". Well, I always assumed I would just be "Grandma", but my friends are telling me that is not cool. (I think it is WAY cool) Some have suggested "Mimi" , some have suggested "Nana" (he already has a Nana), I have heard "Granny P, Baw Baw, Glam Gram, etc.".... I guess we'll let Avery decide what he wants to call me. I was thinking of dropping the "r" in Grandma and calling myself "Gandma".... my son says "no, when he gets older, that will sound stupid".... LOL. So, what do your grandchildren call you?

  1. When my first grandson was coming along my DIL insisted we 4 grandparents should pick our grandparent names. She thought that if we had names we liked and all the adults called us those names when the baby was around he would get to know us by those names and call us that. Great plan but it doesn't work. I was supposed to be Grams and my husband was going to be Gramps. From an early age our grandson has called DH Ga and that has stuck and DH likes it so he'll be Ga for eternity. I on the other hand was called Nya-Nya. I don't know how he came up with that but that is what he called me for quite while. It has now morphed into Nuh-Nuh and it looks like that is sticking so that's what I'll be for eternity. So pick and name and plan on that name not being the one they call you! What fun you are about to have!

I have a feeling that little Avery is going to call you whatever comes easiest from his little mouth...

  12. Congratulations... this is the best time of your life! Mine call me Grammy... respectable even for a 22 yr old. Lol One of them called me "pretty" for a while. I kinda liked that, too. Thanks for coming by, I'll be posting more often now, I just retired officially last week. Yippee!
