Tumpy

Have you guys ever met Tumpy? Tumpy is the newest addition to my "litter" of pups... he came to live with me about a year ago. He is a fat little dachshund who has the most precious personality ever! He makes really strange throat noises, that sometimes sound like a little kid is yelling in the room. He will lay in the floor for hours, rolling, making those noises, playing with a toy, just entertaining himself. He is squishy and loving... he loves to be held. He gets very jealous when we rub another dog and quickly goes over to bite the other dog's leg while it is being rubbed. If we rub Tumpy for a few minutes and stop, he'll whine until we start back. He cannot jump onto the bed.. he has to have a footstool. He can make it onto the couch, but sometimes has to try more than once. He is rotten! Tumpy has a weight problem... the vet sent a message to me to stop feeding him so much! I need to help little Tumpy lose weight, but it's so hard with two other dogs in the house who do not have a weight problem. I put their food out and if they choose not to eat at that moment... well Tumpy will eat it for them. I'm not sure how to fix this problem, as I don't believe in anyone ever being hungry!!! Has anyone else had this problem.... how to help one dog lose weight while making sure the other two get enough to eat? Any advice would be helpful, as I do love our little Tumpy!
ps... I have a friend who has a small dachshund like my Sweet Pea. She came over to visit the other day and brought her 13 year old daughter with her. The daughter fell in love with Tumpy. Her mom told me that since she met our Tumpy, she has been trying to "overfeed" their little dachshund because she wants him to be fat like Tumpy. So far, she said her dog has only developed diarrhea. :o)

What a cute name. Our dachshund was overweight, too. Her problem was that she loved table food. We couldn't hardly get her to eat her food at all. If you haven't already did so, please don't get her started on 'people' food. It spoils them rotten. The only thing I can suggest is taking her for walks a lot for exercise. It's so hard to say no to them when they look at you with those adorable puppy dog eyes. Ours was a red dachshund and she loved chicken and spaghetti! I guess if your other dogs don't eat their food when you put it down for them, maybe try putting it up off the floor so 'Tumpy' can't get to it.

Sorry, no dogs here... cat family!

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes this morning! And yep, the greys are multiplying! I think I've come by it honestly though - my dad was totally silver by my age. And I'm only 29... again.

Have a great day, Kimberly

Hilarious post! I loved it!

I have resorted to feeding my dogs in two small meals per day so that the slower less piggy one can get some in before the chubby one boots her out of the way. And since they eat breakfast and dinner when we do, we can watch them real close.

So did you go from zero to three dogs in a short period of time. I have some cats you can have, if you like! Would give the dogs something to look at out the window.

The person that said exercise sounds like a good idea...Does Tumpy run around when you put her outside... or just lay around like your dad's dog. You know Missy is too fat too. LOL

Hmmm..I worry about health issues..we try to limit our dogs treats and believe it or not they LOVE carrots! You know, hose baby carrots they sell in the bags? My advice would be the walking..we go twice a day (not always easy to fit in, but we go EVERY day anyway.) Seems to help them and I know it helps me! Oh, an they NEVER have table scraps...Hope that helps - he's just AdORaBlE!!!!

I agree! No people food!!! Will ruin them!!! We have a cat and a dog, because the cat can jump we have a baby gate up in the spare bathroom with her food, so the dog can't get it.....Janet may be right put the food where Tumpy can't get to it!
